Call your senator, FISA vote tomorrow     permalink

Filed under: corpses in the news, corpses at large — Gravity Girl @ 04:09:40 pm

I urge everyone and their mother to call their senator TODAY to strongly protest the adoption of the proposed FISA bill that would legalize warrantless wiretapping.

Do you enjoy your privacy? If you don't like the idea of bulk wiretaps with no warrant and interception of email and all your internet traffic without warrant, you should make your voice heard.

the EFF has a page where you put in your state and it spits out your senators' contact information, as well as talking points when you call.

Basically, politely urge your senator to vote YES on the Dodd-Feingold amendment, YES on the Bingaman amendment, NO on the cloture motion to end debate on FISA, and NO on the FISA Amendments Act.

Well, it's been almost 10 years.

the booster is better than getting tetanus, and the hole in my foot from a nail hurts more than the booster.

I'll be under the house     permalink

Filed under: corpses at home — admin @ 08:24:01 pm

So today, I’m on the front porch getting ready to go under the house to do some wiring when I hear 12 gunshots in rapid, even, succession from what sounds like a couple blocks away. Gunshots not being too common anymore in this neighborhood, I call 911.

I tell the operator I heard shots about 2 blocks away, and we then hammer out the details of what streets it could have been on so he can send a squad car to investigate. He takes all my info and then asks if they can call me back if they have any questions.

me: Sure, I won’t be near the phone for 45 minutes or so, I’ll be under the house.
911: Ma’am, you’ll be safe where you are if the shots were two blocks away. Do you want me to send a squad car to your house?

I then have to explain (between laughs) that I am going under the house to do electrical, not because of the shots.
